How We'd Start
Getting from a conversation to a signed scope
Every engagement, including this one, starts the same disciplined way before any work begins.
1
Intro Call
A short, confidential conversation on the kinds of sensitive matters you're navigating.
2
Business Assessment
A structured review of how sensitive matters are currently handled, logged, and escalated.
3
NDA & One-Week Examination
Under signed NDA, a focused week confirming scope, discretion needs, and priorities.
4
Decision on Work Type
We agree whether this is a build, a rebuild, or advisory.
5
Execution
The work begins against a scoped, agreed plan.
What I Deliver
A discreet, trusted point of contact when it matters most
I build the confidential decision log, escalation path, and discretion framework for legal disputes, expense management, and other high-discretion matters, serving as the founder's trusted point of contact while it's stood up, then handing it to a named internal owner, typically a Chief of Staff or General Counsel, so nothing depends on memory or on me. I coordinate with outside counsel and auditors; I don't replace them, and I don't provide financial or investment advice.

From The Assessment
Issues we typically find, and how we solve them
A sample of the kinds of gaps the Business Assessment surfaces around sensitive matters, and the fix each one gets.
IssueA legal dispute gets discussed in three different Slack channels before anyone loops in counsel, so specifics leak wider than intended.
SolutionA defined escalation path routes any legal matter to outside counsel at a set trigger point, with visibility capped to founder plus Chief of Staff by default.
IssueUnusual or large expenses get approved verbally over Slack, and there's no paper trail when finance asks who signed off and why.
SolutionA confidential decision log records the what, when, and who for every notable expense decision, without exposing sensitive details company-wide.
IssueA sensitive personnel matter gets more visibility than intended because there's no default rule for who needs to know.
SolutionA circles-of-visibility model expands access only as far as a matter requires, starting from the narrowest possible circle every time.
IssueThe founder becomes the single point of failure on sensitive matters, with no continuity if they're unavailable for a week.
SolutionA trusted second point of contact is looped in on every matter from day one, so nothing stalls waiting on one person's calendar.

What this looks like in practice
Below is an illustrative example of how sensitive matters get categorized, logged, and escalated, so high-discretion decisions have a paper trail without wide visibility. Structure and content are representative and intentionally generic; specifics of any real matter are confidential.

Purpose

Give founders a single, trusted point of contact for issues too sensitive for the standard reporting structure, with a lightweight documentation trail so decisions aren't lost to memory.

Escalation Principles
  • Default to the narrowest possible circle of visibility, expanded only as required
  • Every sensitive decision gets a brief written record, even if access to it is restricted
  • Legal or expense-related matters loop in outside counsel or auditors at the appropriate trigger point, not after the fact; this is documentation and coordination, not financial or investment advice
